Sports activities Ministry to not ship delegation to Olympics, nodal cell to be arrange in Indian embassy in Tokyo

The Sports activities Ministry stated on Friday that it’ll not be sending its delegation to this 12 months’s Tokyo Olympics. The ministry stated that it has determined to depute “maximum additional support staff” to the 100 athletes who’ve certified for the Video games, which can be held from July 23 to August 8.

“Visit of any person other than athletes, coaches and support staff will be taken up only if there is any protocol requirement. In the light of the arrangement, it has been decided not to have any Ministry delegation for the Tokyo Olympics,” stated the ministry in a press release.

“Participation of the Indian Teams and sportspersons for Tokyo Olympics 2020 is being reviewed round the clock. The Ministry has decided to depute maximum additional support staff such as coaches, doctors, physiotherapists, to optimize the performance of the athletes.”

The ministry stated that an “Olympic Mission Cell” is being arrange within the Indian Embassy in Tokyo which is able to present help to the athletes through the Video games. “An Olympic Mission Cell is being set up in the Embassy of India in Tokyo, as a single window node to provide logistic support to the Indian Contingent bound for Tokyo, so that all possible assistance is rendered seamlessly,” it stated.

Indian athletes in 12 sports activities – badminton, boxing, hockey, wrestling, archery, taking pictures, fencing, rowing, desk tennis, equestrian and crusing – have certified for the Olympics. The variety of certified athletes may but improve and, alongwith the help workers, the Indian contingent may embrace about 190 members. Variety of officers travelling to the Olympics can’t be greater than one-third of the contingent.
